Hey Hey- Sylvie in the house.  Been away at Soul Fusion Kitchen kickin it.  Brought you some luv with photos from our recent competition at the 3rd Annual Cookin in the Park- Viejas 2007.

 

We did ok 15th out of 37 teams overall.  No trophys and no money but lots of kudos.  8th pork, 9th chicken, 21st ribs and 24th brisket

I just can't give up this site.  It is the starting site for my documentation of my cuulinary adventures.  What a ride.  from decorated sugar cookies to what I ate to BBQ competitions and what i tcooked.

The saying that the older you get, the faster time flies is so true.  Here we are again in the holiday season.  Thanskgiving and christmas only a few more weeks ahead.  This year, I will be cooking dinners again for the family.  Check with me at Soul Fusion Kitchen for recipes and ideas.

Haven't posted lately.  Still here.

It hs been nearly a year since I have written about visiting my daughter in Philadelphia.  In actuality, I could take that very same post and recopy it here again.  Yes, it rained then and yes it is raining now. 

 

When I arrived a week ago, it was drizzling and wet.  The temps during the last week of August were only in the 70's. We had a couple of dry days but it remained overcast and gloomy.  This Labor Day weekend, it seemed the weather was destined to just not cooperate with plans for backyard BBQs until Monday (yesterday) when we awoke to blue sunny skies and 80 degree weather.  Simply gorgeous.  Had lunch at a not worthy of blogging about Thai Restaurant (Pattaya in University City).  Then we took the subway to Center City to shop (yet again).  No BBQ this whole weekend.

 

Well that  sunny weather didn't last very long.  This morning, the weather reverted back to last weeks norm.  Wet, cool, dreary and depressing.  I looked up the temps for L.A and found it was 80 Plus and sunny. My flight back to L.A. is this evening and I look forward to returning to sunshine, G and Ziggy. 

 

I have one last stop to make before going to the airport.  Phillie cheesesteak at Pat's and Geno's.  Yes, I plan to purchase one for lunch and a second to eat later.  Yes, it will be soggy and cold and still tasty.  I have been here a week and have not had a single cheesesteak sandwich.  I am overdue.

 

Another special event is I am supposed to pick up an addition to our household.  A 71/2 month old Yorkie name Mr. Miyagi.  I closed the deal on him before I left for Phillie.   I know I don't need another little pooch and Ziggy will be jealous, but I couldn't resist him.  This will be very interesting as I know that bringing a new one into the household may present some dominance versus submissiveness challenges for each.  I read the books and think I'm ready.  Hopefully this will go well.

It has been a while since I have updated this site.  My emphasis has been on my other blog,  Soul Fusion kitchen.  I invite you to drop by and see what has been going on in Sylvie's kitchen.

 

 

This week I took some time to myself to bake and decorate some suagr cookies.  My intention was to try some ethnically oriented Afro-Centric Designs.  Well, that design didn't materialize very well but I still got some pretty cookies.  Check out my primary blog for photos and  recipes.  I call these my cookie divas.

Yes, I have been paying less and less attention to this site.  It's because all my energy has been directed to my now primary site Soul Fusion Kitchen.  I have migrated a lot of the recipe content of this site there or with links to where the recipes can be found which is Food Got to Love It 2.  My first food blog love will of course always be Food got To Love It ,however, the limitations on space and memory brought me to a standstill.

 

I'll continue to add things here or just post something highlighting my other site.  Springis here and summer just around the corner.  It's a lovely day in L.A.  My son is here for the weekend and we have enjoyed his company.  Ziggy mostly loves having him to play with.   Ziggy also took his attention away from Ashes, his true feline friend.

Ashes was my son's cat.  He came to us in August 1996 as a little kitten.  Sadly, Ashes disappeared around the end of March 2006 only to be discovered under our neighbor's house a couple of weeks later.

 

This post is in remembrance of Ashes.  Though my son has many fond memories of him, my most recent include his wet paw prints all over my car.  I don't say this to be funny or less than compassionate.  I did love that cat. 

 

He was confined to the outside due to less than desirable spraying habits indoors.  Our house was free of vermin and the little presents he left us are no more.  I do miss feeding him daily and hearing his meow to remind me it's time to open a can of Fancy Feast.  I miss Ziggy barking like crazy whenever Ashes perched outside the window. 

 

Most of all, I know TC misses him.

Four Q BBQ

Goodness, February is more than 1/2 over.  Superbowl Sunday seems like it was so long ago.  With Valentine's Day, work and other food related excursions, I forgot to post about this event.

 

Let's not waste a lot of words nor try to match the hipe that went along with this event. I'll just say, the commercials were awful, I'm not a fan of the Stones and the team I picked lost.  We ate well and enjoyed the company of some long time friends.

 

The menu included Hawaiian Pulled Pork, Wahoo, Smoky Beef Roast, Coconut Yams, Brownies, Cookies, Chips and Dips, Pina Coladas, Wine and Martinis.

I had fun making the cookies displayed in the Valentine Cookie Alblum.  Sweet treats for my co-workers, the ladies and gents at the nail shop and some I even sent to my daughter for her to give to her friends. 

 

I finished the cookies today.  On a scale of 1-10, they are a 5 as far as looks but the flavor is fantastic.  Lemon, or orange or almond-vanilla flavored using extracts.

 

I used edible dusting sparkling powder and that didn't go over very well.  My inspiration was a newscaster who mentioned that the Seahawks would use their metallic blue uniforms for the game.  Why not metallic looking cookies?  I probably should have painted on the powder by dissolving some in vodka and brushing it on versus powdering it.  Oh well, next year.

I spent some time today getting my Superbowl Sunday Cookies started.  I have a helmet cookie cutter but had to improvise on the football cutter.  I simply took a can of some vegetable from my pantry, emptied it and then opened the other end.  I simply squeezed in on it to make an oval shape- Voila!  football cookie cutter. 

 

By the time I finished the baking, the Pittsburgh Steelers had cinched a spot so I know Gold is one color I'll use.  So far it look like the Seattle Seahawks may take the second spot.  Blue is for sure, but what shade.  We'll see.  Anyway, I'll freeze the cookies until I'm ready to decorate.  They do freeze well as long as you keep the container airtight.
